Power Outage Update:

As of 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, there are approximately 2,600 customers without power in the Lansing Board of Water & Light service territory, down from 3,000 outages Thursday at 10 p.m.

The current outage number represents less than 3 percent of BWL’s total customers without power. At the peak of the outage earlier this week, nearly 40,000 customers or 40 percent of BWL customers were without power

The BWL is projecting that fewer than 1,000 customers will be without power by the end of this Sunday, Dec. 29. The remaining outages are expected to be restored next week and reflect single homes with downed lines or small pockets of outages.

In order to assist the BWL to restore power to homes and businesses with downed lines, customers should please note the following:

BWL power lines

Lansing Board of Water & Light
connect to a home or business at the vertical pole or “mast” on the sides buildings, or “house knobs” – those little knobs attached to the building. If the mast or house knobs are damages or down, it’s the customers responsibility to hire an electrician to repair the items before the BWL can reattach the power line to the building. The meter – which records the amount of electricity used – is BWL equipment. The meter is the BWL’s responsibility to maintain or repair. Go to www.lbwl.com for more information.

Line crews are worked Thursday night to restore power along circuits in areas reflected by the following street intersections:

Pleasant Grove/Mount Hope
Saginaw/MLK
Fairview/Heights
Harrison/Lake Lansing
University/Grand River
Delta River/Grand River
South Creyts/Saint Joseph
Techumseh River/Grand River

Hundreds of downed power lines remain to be repaired. Residents are urged to stay 25 feet away from downed wires. Downed power lines are being prioritized for repair based on public health and safety facilities and circuits with the highest number of customers without power. BWL and other municipal utility crews will continue to work around the clock until all customer power has been restored.

The Board of Water & Light is aware of its outage areas. Residents can report a down power line by sending an email to custservice@lbwl.com, or by calling (517) 702-6006 or toll free at 877-295-5001. Residents may also post a downed line message on the BWL’s Facebook page or on SeeClickFlix. Please note that due to high call volumes, you may experience a busy signal and/or long wait times.
